Charlotte Hatherley – White
You might be forgiven for thinking that Ms. Hatherley’s decamping from Ash in favour of touring with Bat For Lashes would signal a similar change in her solo material.
Not quite – it’s still melodious guitar-led power-pop. Perhaps a little darker around the edges (and she certainly looks a bit glummer than usual in the vid), but still the same ballpark.
What’s changed though is how well it works. Still tune-packed, this sounds sleek and professional, and – dare I say – a bit more grown-up. A chugging Breeders-style verse gives way to the crashing, cathartic waves of an almost Bangles-esque chorus, to rather lovely effect. A definite keeper.
