Sometime – Heart of Spades
Slightly shifty, but still pretty spiffy synthpop from Iceland’s Sometime. Led by the predictably quirky but still wonderful vocals of Diva de la Rosa (something tells me that’s not her real name), it’s hypnotic in a sort of cheesy but utterly entrancing way. While their album is too grating to handle in a single sitting, with too many superfluous ‘scratching’ moments and a voice that occasionally leans towards the soporfic, here it works perfectly. Diva’s vocals float around, lost among the weirdness, and recall the creepy cutesiness of the likes of Lykke Li and El Perro del Mar.
