jj – Let Go
A brief, wintry song of release, overtured by more than a minute of pretty, mournful harmonica and plucked strings, this is easily the most beautiful piece of music I’ve heard thus far in 2010. A taster from the relatively anonymous Swedish duo’s second full-length (confusingly called jj no. 3), it’s a sonic step forward from previous releases. There’s a straightforward purity about it that sounds something like the XX might if they’d been produced to the same standard as, say, ‘A&E’ by Goldfrapp. As a single track, it’s provided a comforting soundtrack to a few months of bitterly cold weather. Here’s hoping the album maintains the very high standard set here.
