2007: Top 50

1 “With Every Heartbeat” – Robyn ft. Kleerup

If only every UK number one was anywhere near as good as this. Painfully harsh vocals, lovely bubbly backing music. All on top of a melody that could have been lifted from an early Magnetic Fields album. Perfect.

2 “Beautiful Life” – Gui Boratto

Almost the perfect companion piece to the Robyn track. 9 minutes of understated yet euphoric genius.

3 “The Magic Position” – Patrick Wolf

Happiest song of the year no question. Joyful.

4 “Tonight The Streets Are Ours” – Richard Hawley

Knew Our Richard would come good with a pop song one day.

5 “Doing it Right” – The Go! Team

What’s not to like. OK, it’s not a great progression from the first album, but more of the same is exactly what I wanted from these guys…

6 “Again & Again” – The Bird & The Bee

Again and again and again and again and again and again yes please lovely thanks.

7 “Atom” (from Krankenhaus? EP) – British Sea Power

8 “D.A.N.C.E.” – Justice

I read the other day that this only got to number 43. Shocking.

9 “Golden Skans” – Klaxons

Patchy album, great single. Sounds fresh every time you hear it.

10 “All My Friends” – LCD Soundsystem

Another brilliant long-build single from a band showing second album depth following messy, lightweight debut.

11 “No Cars Go” – Arcade Fire [Couldn’t leave it out]
12 “Your Love Alone Is Not Enough” – Manic Street Preachers [Cheering]

15 “Umbrella” – Rihanna [Omnipresent]

27 “Lips Are unhappy” – Lucky Soul [Shake, shake, shimmy, shimmy]
